Mark R. Haranas, president and CEO of MutualOne Bank and a MutualOne Bank Charitable Foundation trustee has announced a $10,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club of MetroWest’s Framingham Clubhouse. This is the sixth consecutive year that the MutualOne Charitable Foundation has recognized the work of the Boys & Girls Club.

According to Chris Duane, president & CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of MetroWest, the Framingham Clubhouse focuses on offering quality out-of-school programs to low-income and at-risk youth.

“The Boys & Girls Club has consistently provided a safe and supervised environment for our youth,” said Haranas. “It gives us great pleasure to continue to support their work.”

Steven M. Sousa, executive vice president and chief operating officer of MutualOne Bank and a MutualOne Charitable Foundation trustee has announced a $3,500 grant to the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest to support their Summer Musical Theater Workshop.

“The summer theater program provides performance opportunities for local elementary and middle school students,” said Sousa. “This grant will underwrite scholarships for economically disadvantaged students attending the workshops.”

Mark R. Haranas, president and CEO of MutualOne Bank and a MutualOne Bank Charitable Foundation trustee has announced an $8,000 grant to the MetroWest ESL Fund. The donation will support the free adult English as a second language classes to help people learn the language and culture of the US.

According to John J. O’Neil III, director of Adult ESL, while the program currently serves over 850 students, there are 700 more waiting. The MutualOne grant will fund a semester of free English classes for 19 students.

“We are pleased to support MetroWest ESL’s efforts to expand access to their life-changing programs,” said Haranas.

A recent $10,000 grant from the MutualOne Charitable Foundation will be used to enhance community assistance programs provided by The Salvation Army Framingham Corps.

According to Major Wendy Kountz, Commanding Officer of the Framingham Corps, the funds will be used to support their food insecurity program, provide for the needs of new mothers, and rental assistance to veterans, seniors and low-income residents.

“We believe in supporting programs that address the immediate needs of those around us,” said Steven M. Steven M. Sousa, executive vice president and chief operating officer of MutualOne Bank and a MutualOne Charitable Foundation trustee has announced a $500 grant to the Framingham Garden Club to underwrite the operating costs for a spring fundraising event.

According to Framingham Garden Club President Nancy Martin, the event is expected to raise between $6,000 and $7,000. The proceeds will be used to continue and expand beautification, horticultural and floral design programs in the City, award scholarships to Framingham High School seniors and support the 3^rd grade program at Garden in the Woods.

“We are pleased to support this fundraising event,” said Sousa. “It’s a great example of how our community giving can be multiplied through the efforts of a dedicated volunteer organization.”

The funds will be used to help volunteers provide “Happy Birthday, Baby” care packages for low-income mothers and pregnant teens.

According to Program Coordinator Lorna J. Mailhoit, the baskets are filled with essential items for new babies including a handmade baby blanket, bottles, clothing, diapers, and a stuffed animal.

“We are pleased to offer our support for this valuable outreach program,” said Haranas. “It shows how much can be accomplished by volunteers in our local community.” The $2,500 grant to The First Baptist Church in Framingham was among awards totaling $77,000 in the MutualOne Charitable Foundation’s most recent round of funding.
